Meus boletos DDA

Meus Boletos (DDA) is the digital bill management experience designed for Itaú EMPS, a product created specifically for entrepreneurs who manage their businesses independently and do not rely on dedicated financial or operational teams. The product lives within the Payments area of the Itaú EMPS app and was designed to centralize all boletos associated with a CNPJ, replacing fragmented, manual processes with a structured digital experience. This case covers one year of ownership of the Meus Boletos (DDA) experience for Itaú EMPS, from early discovery and vision definition to continuous product evolution.

.context

Discovery and context The project began with a kickoff focused on understanding the daily reality of Itaú EMPS customers. Qualitative interviews revealed that most users are entrepreneurs who personally handle payments, organization, and financial control for their businesses. Research identified several recurring behaviors: Customers manage a very high volume of boletos, with some paying up to 80 bills per month; Payments follow a weekly operational rhythm, typically concentrated on Mondays, when users review upcoming bills, schedule payments, and organize proof of payment; Many customers rely on a physical management system, using folders organized by month and storing printed boletos alongside receipts — effectively maintaining an offline version of a DDA. In parallel, desk research was conducted using Itaú’s internal research platform. Existing DDA experiences in Itaú Empresas and Itaú PF (CPF) were analyzed as references, since these products were already live and exposed real customer behavior, pain points, and limitations. Key recurring frustrations observed in these products included: Limited support for bulk payment workflows; Unrecognized bills appearing in DDA; Low trust in certain boleto types, especially proposal bills. These findings informed the core challenge for Itaú EMPS: How to transition customers from a physical, manual bill management process to a digital DDA experience that feels trustworthy, efficient, and aligned with real operational routines.

.strategy

Addressing a critical market issue Proposal bills (boleto proposta) are widely associated with fraud in the Brazilian market. They are often used to request payments without prior agreement, creating confusion and distrust among entrepreneurs. Research showed that this boleto type was one of the main reasons users felt insecure using DDA platforms. To address this, Meus Boletos (DDA) introduced: Clear labeling for proposal bills; Simplified bill detail views to support fast recognition; Explicit controls that allow users to manage relevance and visibility. This reframed proposal bills from a hidden risk into a visible and controllable part of the experience.

Continuous evolution and key differentiators

The product evolved through continuous, incremental improvements, informed by:

  • User interviews and usability tests;

  • Feedback collected through NPS and PMF;

  • Behavioral insights from real usage.

By 2026, a major differentiator was introduced:
the ability to completely hide proposal bills.

Users can disable proposal bills entirely via a toggle, ensuring they never appear again in the experience. This significantly increases trust, reduces cognitive load, and gives customers full control over what they choose to manage.

Additional experience highlights include:

  • Simplified digital bill details;

  • Clear visibility of due dates to prevent fines and interest;

  • A structure designed to replace physical folders with a reliable digital system.
